“Honesty Toward Believers”
“Honesty Toward Believers”
” … study to be quiet, … do your own business, … work with
your own hands, … walk honestly to them that are with-
out, … have lack of nothing.” I Thessalonians 4:11-12
These two verses carry several very vital commands that
are so easily ignored in today’s Christian’s lives.
Study to be quiet. Most of us say too much too soon about
our salvation, before we know what it is all about. Study is
first to study the Bible. It brings confidence to our experience.
It will teach us to preach by a holy walk before our neighbor,
rather than a condemning talk about our neighbor’s sin. Some
Christians even talk in church when they should be listening.
Minding one’s own business will keep a believer from
meddling. Since we are saved, some think they have the
answer to the ills of all people. God instructs us to study out
our own business and get that straightened out before we
tackle other’s ills. Many Christians can be very condemning
of others when that condemnation is really a cover-up for
some business of their own they are not minding!
Working with one’s own hands eliminates the disgrace to
Christ of being a dead-beat Christian. Work is God’s
command-MAKE YOUR OWN WAY!Finally, walking honestly is the reason for working and
making your own way. An unsaved person will be influenced
by the honest, hard work of a believer that cuts no corners and
works without complaining. To “have lack of nothing” come
to the believer by evident, honest work. – H.N.
