The Fulfillment of the Great Commission – Acts 1:8
“The Fulfillment of the Great Commission”
“But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is
come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in
Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the
uttermost part of the earth.” Acts 1:8
When we read Matthew 28:19-20, Mark 16:15, Luke
24:46-49, John 20:21-23, and Acts 1:8, we call these portions
of Scripture, from the lips of our Saviour, The Great
Commission. The word commission is defined as “an
instruction, command, or duty given to a person or group of
people.” Jesus Christ commissioned His disciples (you and
me included) to GO and preach the Gospel to every creature.
In Acts 1:8, we see that we must begin with our Jerusalem. All
too often, we find ourselves boasting on the missions
supported through our church. I praise the Lord for mission
programs, but if we are not doing our part to reach our own
city, our Jerusalem, we are not doing our part, and we are
failing in the Great Commission.
While we can give and pray for our missionaries, let us not
forget our duty in regard to the Great Commission, with
reaching those close by. Take some Gospel tracts and give
them to others. Give your testimony of what the Lord has
done for you, always displaying Christ in your actions.
Witness to someone! Matthew 5:16 says, “Let your light so
shine before men, that they may see your good works, and
glorify your Father which is in heaven. ” -C.P.
