Caldwell, Hon. Robert P., of Trenton, Tenn., was born in Adair Co., Ky., Dec. 16, 1821; had public school education; studied and practiced Jaw; was in the lower branch of the General Assembly of Tennessee in 1847-48, and was in the upper branch in 1855-56, and was elected attorney- general in the sixteenth judicial circuit of Tennes- see in 1858; was major in the 12th Tenn. In- fantry of the Confederate service ; had his disabili- tics removed by act of Congress; and was elected to the 42d Congress, receiving 8227 votes, against 1848 votes for his opponent. Hon. Mr. Caldwell professed religion, and was baptized by Rev. Dr. Hillsman into the fellowship of the Trenton Baptist church, October, 1863, and has continued a reputable and useful member up to this writing, 1880.
