Campbell, Duncan R., LL.D., was born in Perthshire, Scotland, Aug. 14, 1814. He was educated for the Presbyterian ministry, and in this relation entered the pastorate at Nottingham, England, and subsequently became a missionary in London. He emigrated to the United States in May, 1842, and soon after his arrival at Richmond, Va., sought membership in the First Baptist church of that city, and was baptized by Rev. Dr. Jeter. In the fall of 1842 he accepted the pastorate of Leigh Street church in Richmond, and in 1845, being in poor health, he removed to Kentucky, and accepted the pastorate of the church at George- town, where he labored with great success four years. He was then elected Professor of Hebrew and Biblical Literature in the theological seminary at Covington, Ky. In 1852″ he was elected presi- dent of Georgetown College, filling the position with great ability until his death at Covington, Ky., Aug. 16, 1865. From the Baptist Encyclopedia by William Cathcart
