Heb. 11: 16 “But now they desire a better that is a heavenly country. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God for He has prepared a city for them.” (The motivation that took the patriarchs into the Promised Land and ultimately to that heavenly city that is eternal in the heavens was the one that brought our Pilgrim forefathers to America. They sought a country free from tyranny by the government, ruler, king, or president. They wanted a free and Godly country where their values would not be denigrated but respected, endorsed, and incorporated into succeeding generations’ lives. You see this in identifying themselves as a ‘city set on a hill” for all to see. They sought a country that would respect hard work and reward those who gave their all instead of taking from others who did work instead of them. They sought a country where God would bless, protect, and provide. So, as with the patriarchs, it was with them: ‘God was not ashamed to be called their God.’ He blessed their efforts despite much hardship. Long may their legacy live on despite what lies ahead in the future. I, for one, intend to keep it going in all I do. How about you? Celebrate Thanksgiving in the spirit of the Pilgrims.)
