Westminster Divine Daniel Cawdrey on a Woman’s Subjection to Her Husband (He wouldn’t be well received by reformed people today):

Question. What is the main duty of the wife? Answer. Subjection or submission to her husband (Genesis 3: 16).

Question. What does this subjection consist of? Answer. In these two things: an acknowledgment of his superiority over her. In her respect to him, as her superior.

Question. How does it appear that her husband is her superior? Answer. God has given it to him (Genesis 3: 16). Nature teaches it in the weakness of all females, and so, inferior to the males, (1 Peter 3: 7). His titles imply superiority, as lord (1 Peter 3: 6), guide (Proverbs 2: 17), head (1 Corinthians 11: 3). He represents Christ, and she represents the church (Ephesians 5: 23). Woman was made for the man, not the man for the woman, (Genesis 2: 18, 1 Corinthians 11: 8-9).

Question. What reason is there for this acknowledgement? Answer. Because man is the ground of all true subjection and obedience, as to the ordinance of God.

Question. How is she supposed to respect him? Answer. In two things: reverence and obedience.

Question. What is her reverence to him? Answer. Inward or outward.

Question. What is her inward reverence? Answer. A high esteem of him for his place’ sake, as her lord and head, by the ordinance of God, which is called fear, (1 Peter 3: 2) and reverence (Ephesians 5:33), a reverential fear.

Question. Where is this fear manifested? Answer. By her care to please him (1 Corinthians 7: 34). By her joy in pleasing him (Proverbs 31: 12). By her grief in offending him.

Question. How is her outward fear or reverence shown? Answer. By her behavior and speech.

For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands: Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.
1 Peter 3:5,6

Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. Proverbs 31:10
A woman came into a store wearing clothes that showed her body too well.
The shop owner took a good look at her, asked her to sit down, stared at her in the eye and told them something she’ll never forget in life.
′′Miss, everything God has made valuable in this world is well covered and it’s hard to see, find, or get. For example:
1. Where can you find the diamondsAt the bottom of the earth, covered and protected.
2. Where are the pearls found? At the ocean floor, covered and protected in a beautiful shell.
3. Where can you find gold?Down the ground, covered in layers of rock and to get it you have to work hard and dig deep.
Having said that, he stared at her again and said:
′′ Your body is sacred and unique “. You are much more precious than gold, diamonds and pearls, so you must be covered too “And I add: ′′ If you keep your precious minerals like gold, diamonds and pearls deeply covered, a renowned mining organization with the necessary machinery will work years of extensive exploration.
First they will contact your government (family), sign professional contracts (marriage) and extract it professionally (conjugal life).
But if you let your precious minerals lie on the surface of the earth, you will always attract a large number of illegal miners to come, explore and illegally take those riches.
Dress Up Pretty, But Decent! You can dress to be chased or you can dress to stay chaste. Only one honors God. Only one honors yourself, and only one will attract an honorable man.

Hear the Voice of the Bridegroom: Concerning Holy Matrimony Paperback – October 1, 2023by Bill and Roberta Taylor (Authors)
Pastors Teaching God-Ordained Holy Matrimony
Christians must be taught how to bring about God-honoring marriages that give both parties a taste of the joys of Heaven as God intended. Marriage is simple – the Bible describes marriage in one verse. You can explain both marriage and salvation in one minute. You can show how a joyful marriage operates in two words.
God-honoring marriage brings men and women joy in this life (Gal. 5:22-23, Eph. 5:9), shows lost people the blessings of following He commands (Du. 4:6-8, Du. 30:9-10, 16), and helps His servants raise children to serve Him (Mal. 2:15).Christians show Christ to unbelievers (2 Cor. 5:20). Romans 7:4 uses the word “married” to describe the permanent tie between a born-again Christian and Christ. Holy Matrimony is powerful testimony. Christian husbands nourishing and cherishing their wives shows the lost how Christ blesses His people. Christian wives honoring and obeying their husbands show how Christians follow Christ. Christian divorce damages the picture of Christ’s care for us. When lost people see that we can’t handle this life any better than they, why should they care what we say about the life to come?
Hear the Voice of the Bridegroom
John the Baptist’s message was like a pastor’s message to a church. John could have been jealous heard that Jesus’ disciples were baptizing and that “all men come to him (Jn. 3:26),” but he humbly explained his God-given role:
Ye yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but that I am sent before him. He that hath the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, which standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice: this my joy therefore is fulfilled. He must increase, but I must decrease. John 3:28-30
God sent John before Christ. The church is the bride and Jesus is the bridegroom in the “marriage supper of the Lamb (2 Cor. 11:2, Rev. 19:9).” John couldn’t preach our Gospel of Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection because it hadn’t happened yet; his Gospel of Repentance proclaimed the Messiah. If Jews had accepted Christ as Messiah, they’d have been married to Him as Christians are today (Rom. 7:4). As the friend of the Bridegroom, John heard “the bridegroom’s voice (Jn. 3:29)” which filled him with joy.
As Abraham and Moses were friends of God (Ex. 33:11, 2 Chr. 20:7, Is. 41:8), pastors are called by God to be friends of the Bridegroom. As Christ’s friend, you rejoice as Christ speaks to you and to your people through your messages, Bible reading, and prayer. Christ must increase in us as we crucify the flesh in our lives (Eph. 4:22, Col. 3:9). Growth in Christ from hearing the Bridegroom continues the “good work” that begins when we accept the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior and continues “until the day of Jesus Christ (Phil. 1:6).”
This is how we “Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you (Jam. 4:8).” We make the first move in asking Him to increase so that we can decrease. Increasing Him helps us enjoy the Fruit of the Spirit:
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. Galatians 5:22-24
Christ increases in us as we crucify the flesh. All our relationships: marriage, church, and work, improve as we grow in love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance.
Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Proverbs 3:5-6

Children Learn From Fathers –Ephesians 6:4
“Children Learn From Fathers”“And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.”Ephesians 6:4
According to Dr. T.B. Brazelton, a leading pediatrician, a father that is active in the family will produce smarter andhappier children. He reports that an active dad, at home willcause his children to be more successful at school, have abetter sense of humor, be more motivated and will have ahigher IQ by the age of seven. Another outstanding Christianeducator stated that Western Civilization stands at thecrossroads of survival and the deciding factor will be thepresence or absence of masculine leadership in homes.Consider the following:In Ephesians 6:4, the father should love God and lead byexample and not just words. In I Timothy 5:8 and II Thessalonians 3:10, the fathershould work and teach his children to work. He does not leavemom to do all the work and perhaps if one doesn’t work, heshould not eat!In Proverbs 3:12, the father will discipline in love, mercyand grace. Children should learn the character of God bywatching their earthly father. In Ephesians 5:25, boys learn the proper way to treatwomen and what a marriage should be, by watching dad showhis love for mom.In Matthew 6:9, children learn to pray by hearing theirearthly father pray.In short, fathers have the most powerful influence overtheir children’s lives for good or otherwise. If we think scolding, lecturing, being angry and critical are going to change our husbands, we are dead wrong! Live godly lives. Love and serve. Be joyful and thankful. These have a far more powerful effect of changing them for good rather than any negative from us.
When wives scold, lecture, or are critical of their husbands, they are actually treating them as though husbands are CHILDREN. NO man wants to be treated like he is a child! He will resent his wife for treating him as though she is HIS MOTHER.This is good advice to all wives, but Christian wives should especially show the traits of being loving, supportive, helpful, kind, respectful, and submissive to his leadership in the home.GOD’S DESCRIPTION OF A GODLY WOMAN June 25, 2023  Lori Alexander

Women today believe that marriage is to make them happy and fulfill their emotional needs and desires. When these aren’t happening, they divorce. These are NOT the purposes for marriage, women. You alone decide whether to be happy or not. The joy of the Lord is your strength! You alone take your thoughts captive to the obedience of Christ. This will satisfy your emotional needs. Living in obedience to Christ is what makes our lives fulfilling.Stop depending upon your husband for things he was not created to do. Depend upon Christ alone while working on becoming the wife that God has called you to be: loving, submissive, kind, meek and quiet, not quarrelsome nor contentious…Marriage and raising children take hard work and yes, even suffering, but the blessings FAR outweigh anything this passing world has to offer.
