“The Meal That Jesus Provides”

“As soon then as they were come to land, they saw a fire of
coals there, and fish laid thereon, and bread. Jesus saith unto
them, Come and dine …. ” John 21:9 & 12a
I read some of the following in a church bulletin and added
the last four words to it for my purposes:
“He who draws the net
Sorts the catch and Enjoys the meal.”

I have only fished with a net a few times in my life: two
times with a cast net in Florida and once pulling a dragnet for
several miles up and down a river in Louisiana. On each
occasion fish were caught and other things we didn’t want with
the drag!
In the life of fishing for men, faithfully witnessing,
passing out tracts, talking to loved ones or neighbors,
preaching the Gospel and many other means by which folk are
confronted with eternity and pointed to Jesus Christ, one must
not just cast the net but draw the net! And as our little couplet
says, “Sort the catch;” however, that is not our job but the
Lord’s. Find this in the seaside message of Jesus to His
followers and future fishers of men (cf. Mark 4:1-9).
I would guess the fish Jesus fed those seven men constituted
the best fish breakfast meal they’d had since the feeding of the
5,000 or maybe the broiled fish and honey they’d shared with
Him (see Luke 24:42). Come and dine! -T.G.
