“Given Abilities” I Peter 4:11

“Given Abilities”
“…let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified though Jesus Christ, … ” I Peter 4:11

Notice, if you will, the words: “… as of the ability which God giveth: ” In the context it has to do with one’s ability to minister—that is to be a help and blessing to others. People seem to believe that whatever ability they have they must have inherited it from one of their parents. Now, it goes without saying that we do inherit something from our parents, but the truth is that it is because God allowed these abilities to be transferred via the bloodline. No ability is truly natural; it is given by God.

In Exodus 31:3, one would read how the Lord tells Moses that Bezaleel is the man He has chosen to build items for the tabernacle and it is He (God) that gave him the understanding and knowledge to do the job.

Consider that if you have a talent, God expects that you will use that ability to minister to others. Too many folks keep these things to their self and fail to use their God given ability. I can play an instrument, but there are some who can take the same instrument and minister to the hearts of people in a special way that God has given them the ability to do so. That doesn’t mean I should not try to be a blessing, but you and I must realize that there is always someone who can do what we do better. Say, are you ministering to others or making excuses? —P.H.
