Matt. 7: 15 “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. 16 You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? (False prophets in Jesus’ day were probably the hypocrites of His day running religion in Israel but keeping people out of heaven by their failure to have a true relationship with God and lead others to do so. False prophets appear in any generation. Jesus said they would deceive others with great signs and wonders before His 2nd coming Mk. 13: 22.

They operate by disguising themselves like one of the sheep slipping into the sheepfold and preying on the sheep when they least expect it. We are to beware and not listen to their false teaching if they do not preach the gospel of Christ II John 9-11. Jude 4 also describes them creeping in and leading people astray. Many have diverted from the pathway to heaven because of false teaching.

The way we know them is by their fruits. Groups claiming to have the truth or be the only ones right, cancel out their claims by their failure to bring people to the true gospel. They also are identified by their failure to bring life-giving nutrients of the Holy Spirit into people’s lives through the true gospel.

To expect these groups to bring forth true believers is as useless as trying to get fruit like grapes or figs from dead things. Dead things cannot produce life. Whitefield said, “False prophets are “dead men speaking to dead men”. Stay in the word, get under contextual Biblical teaching and follow Jesus and not men or organizations that will lead you astray.)
