“Holiday Or Holy One?”
“Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.” Matthew 2 :2 KJB

“Look at the lights!” “Look at the lights!” I can still hear those echoes of my children’s excited voices when they saw Christmas lights. Many times we would take a ride in the evening, just to go look at the lights. But, rarely did the lights point to Jesus. They directed one’s attention to reindeer, elves and other nonsense of the holiday season, not the Holy One of Scriptures.

The star in the east pointed the wise men to the Saviour. They lost sight of the star when they went to Jerusalem, instead of Bethlehem. They were almost sabotaged by the worldly lights of Herod’s palace. The misdirection has confused folk today also.

The angels pointed the shepherds to a Saviour in Bethlehem. Later, John the Baptist, the fiery prophet, pointed the Jews to the Holy One of Israel, the Lamb of God, the Holy One…born to die! Jesus’ Father, at His baptism thundered from the heavens: “… This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased” (Matt. 3:17). The Spirit of God likewise directed men’s attention to Jesus (vs. 16).

Don’t miss the Holy One, for the lights of the holiday. If they are not pointing to Jesus, they are a poor distraction. Use your blessings to point folks to the Holy One this Christmas Season. — C.S. CHRIS STAUB, Pastor, Silvery Lane Baptist Church, Dearborn Hts. MI
