WISE OR UNWISE … THAT IS THE QUESTION – Proverbs 11:30

“Wise Or Otherwise?”

“The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that
winneth souls is wise.” Proverbs 11:30

Personally, I don’t read much in the Old Testament
concerning, what we would refer to as “soul-winning” in the
modern-day context. However, our verse today simply says
that in whatever era, time or century, those that win souls are
wise! Just to be blunt, if a born-again Christian has no desire
to or has never even given out the Gospel of Jesus Christ and
its saving power, instructing a sinner in the way of salvation,
thus, never even trying to win a soul to Jesus Christ-what are
you? There are several antonyms to the word wise; I guess the
most prudent would be unwise! If one deigns to never make
an effort to win folks to Christ, he lacks wisdom, discernment
and sound judgment. Surely, there is something each of us can
do to reach the world with the saving Gospel of Christ.

The first part of our verse speaks of the righteous one’s
fruit, as being a tree of life. A tree of life exists today in the
paradise of God. This “tree of life” flows near the street of
gold and grows on either side of the river of life that flows
from the throne of God and the Lamb (see Rev. 22:2). The
Bible is a little plainer than this preacher, for it says, “Blessed
are they that do his commandments, that they may have right
to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the
city (Rev. 22:14). “For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and
whoremongers, and murderers, and idolators and whosoever
loveth and maketh a lie” (vs. 15).
