“All Things New” Revelation 21:5
“All Things New”
“And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.” Revelation 21:5
Our verse comes from the end time writings, referring to the new heaven and the new earth and the millennial reign and eternal state. However, there is a vital principle in the verse that can be applied to our lives now. In his letter to the church of Corinth, Paul calls us new creatures in Christ (cf. II Cor. 5:17) and repeats this phrase in the Galatian letter (Gal. 6:15). “New” may not be descriptive of each of us, still struggling against the old nature, a permanent status practically (although it is not positionally). I engage in renewing every day, because I fail every day. If sin is involved, I repent and confess in order to renew or keep current my practical relationship with Christ.
If you are struggling against a sin or special adversity, and you see some failure, why not start anew, instead of giving up and abandoning the battle against the sin or adversity. “All things new” can be daily. At salvation, we are secure because of the finished work of Christ (see John 10:27-30). In salvation, we still have an old nature, and our struggles against it are steps toward growth in Christ. In Romans six and seven, Paul mentions his own struggles against the “old man.” He did not quit, but he kept starting each new day; for he, like we, must “die daily” (see I Cor. 15:31). — G.G.
