“The Distance Between Failure & Success”

But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his
voice ,… ” Acts 2:14a

There are so many instances of the out-right, ignominious
failures of Peter that I will just mention a few: cutting a man’s
ear off, denying that he knew Jesus, warming his hands at the
enemy’s fire, cursing, going fishing naked, and getting upset
when Jesus questioned his love in John 21. These above
failures all took place in the last seven days of Christ’s earthly
sojourn! God only knows what other failures in faith Peter
was involved in. (Sometimes I feel like I can relate to him
more than any other disciple.)
Now, all of us have our own failures. I don’t believe one
should be judged by the number of times they’ve failed, but by
how many times they’ve succeeded! I guess if one is still
failing, he at least is learning from those failures and hopefully
turning them into success. Thomas Edison (1847-1931) said,
“I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t
work.”
As you can see by your Scripture today, Peter had an
important part in the opening days of the church after the
death, burial and resurrection of Christ! The sermon he began
to preach with our text concluded with 3,000 saved and
baptized converts (vs. 41)! Bro. Peter seemed to do pretty
well the rest of his days and his ministry is still being impactful
today-he wrote two books of the New Testament.
I believe distance between failure and success will widen
over time as one learns by his flops and keeps on keeping on for
God, knowing He will bless and bring spiritual success. – T.G.
