IT HAS ARRIVED – II Timothy 4:3a
“It Has Arrived”
“For the time will come when they will not endure sound
doctrine; … ” II Timothy 4:3a
Paul says that the time will come (and that time has
arrived) when they will not endure sound doctrine; sound
doctrine has become an endurance test that men fail. But after
their own lusts, or to satisfy their own carnal desires, they’ll
heap to themselves teachers. They’re going to find themselves
some so-called preacher/teacher who will tell them something
religious, something spiritual, something that makes them feel
warm and fuzzy, but not put any pressure on them to change
their lives. It’s all intellectual, not spiritual.
The carnal Christian will leave the service excited and
unchanged. He will say, “I learned something new, and boy,
we had a good time! And the music was great! We danced in
the aisles, and … ” That’s about where things are these days.
By the way, they heap to themselves teachers having itching
ears. They’re yearning for someone to tell them something
that will scratch an intellectual itch! They want to hear
something new, but not convicting.
Notice every single word that comes next: “And they shall
turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto
fables” (II Tim. 4:4). To turn away my ears from the truth is a
willful act, an act that I choose to perform. But once I turn my
ears away from the truth, I am then turned. That implies that
something else got a hold of me, and took me farther then I
intended to go. – D.C.
