What is the advantage of the Lords Table?
Mat 25:1-13 Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth
to meet the bridegroom. (2) And five of them were wise, and five were foolish. (3) They that were foolish took their
lamps, and took no oil with them: (4) But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. (5) While the bridegroom
tarried, they all slumbered and slept. (6) And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye
out to meet him. (7) Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps. (8) And the foolish said unto the wise,
Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out. (9) But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for
us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves. (10) And while they went to buy, the bridegroom
came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut. (11) Afterward came also the
other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. (12) But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you
not. (13) Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.
Galilean Wedding
2/3 of ministry of Christ was here in Galilee
The Betrothal
· Meet in the city gates, (Elders, Court)
· Town / City Witness (Covenant) equivalent to exchanging vows today
· Both parties would have copies of the marriage agreement (Vows)
· Exchange gifts. He provides for her to take care of her, and if something should happen to him these gifts would
help to take care of her as a widow.
· The groom provides for her oil so that she may go out to meet him when he returns for her. However many
spend the oil of the night on the pleasures of the world so that when Christ returns, they have no oil to go out
and meet him and are shut out.
The groom would pour the cup of Joy. Wine (Fruit of the vine) into a cup. He would drink of it and then give it to her.
The Bride then makes a choice to drink.
This is called a common union. This is where we get communion from.
The groom would say, you are now consecrated to me by the Law of Moses
I will not drink of fruit of this vine until I drink it new with you in my father’s house.
The Groom would then leave and go home and build on his father’s house a place for his bride.
The groom would not know when he would return for his bride until his father said its time, go get your bride.
The Groom has gone away
· The groom would be gone for a year to prepare.
· Preparation (Groom) has the responsibility for:
· All preparation for the food, clothing. Oil, the wine, the rugs, the oil lamps, etc.,
· The feast would be 7 days and 7 nights.
The Bride prepares
· Preparation (Bride) materials for her garments and the maids
· Buy materials for the garments
· Travel and work for it
· Weave it together
· She and her brides maids would wear their garments
· Remain pure, watch and wait
The Father
· Make sure the son made all the preparations. Only he know the day and the hour.
· He held the marriage document
· Mar 13:16 And let him that is in the field not turn back again for to take up his garment.
Wedding day.
· Father wakes up the Son (Groom) in the middle of the night
· Groom blows the shofar – loudly proclaims, gathers the groomsmen
· The best man would run ahead and yell so the bride could get ready, (John the Baptist)
· Joh 3:29 He that hath the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, which standeth and heareth
him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice: this my joy therefore is fulfilled.
· Joe 2:16 Gather the people, sanctify the congregation, assemble the elders, gather the children, and those that
suck the breasts: let the bridegroom go forth of his chamber, and the bride out of her closet.
The wedding party assemblies
· The bride readies herself
· Groom calls to the bride to come out and meet him
· Jer 33:11 The voice of joy, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride,
the voice of them that shall say, Praise the LORD of hosts: for the LORD is good; for his mercy endureth for
ever:…
· Bride is lifted up and
“flies” back to his house
The Wedding
day
· Rev 19:7-8 Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his
wife hath made herself ready. (8) And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and
white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.
· Wedding party arrives at the father’s house they go in.
· Door is shut (no one can come in)
· Rev 3:7 And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things saith he that is holy, he that is true,
he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth;
· 7 day feast
If you deny the cup, he will deny you.
Mat 10:32-33 Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in
heaven. (33) But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.
The 7th day, the 7th feast / The Feast of Tabernacles / The Millennial Reign
After the wedding, the groom would not go to war for 1 year. As with the Lord a day is as a 1000 years, this is the
millennial reign.
2Pe 3:8-10 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and
a thousand years as one day. (9) The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but
is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. (10) But the day
of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the
elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
The day will come when story of marriage (voice) is lost
Rev 18:23 And the light of a candle shall shine no more at all in thee; and the voice of the bridegroom and of the
bride shall be heard no more at all in thee: for thy merchants were the great men of the earth; for by thy sorceries
were all nations deceived.
The Mystery of one flesh
Gen 2:21-23 And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs,
and closed up the flesh instead thereof; (22) And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman,
and brought her unto the man. (23) And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall
be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.
The creation of Eve was not from any other substance than that which was already made. Eve was made of the same
flesh and bone of Adam. Woman came from his flesh and bone, they were one of each other. This is a great mystery.
Eph 5:30-33 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. (31) For this cause shall a man leave
his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. (32) This is a great mystery:
but I speak concerning Christ and the church. (33) Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife
even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.
The Creation of the Woman
The woman or shall we say the bride is made up of a body. The body is made up of deep water baptized believers. This
creates the woman. The woman (the Bride) is made up of individuals who are members one of another.
Col 1:24 Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh
for his body’s sake, which is the church:
The Mystery of Marriage demonstrated in the bread of Communion
1Co 10:16-17 The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which
we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ? (17) For we being many are one bread, and one body:
for we are all partakers of that one bread.
Now the woman must drink of the cup the Groom drank of. This is the Lords supper.
Mat 20:22-23 But Jesus answered and said, Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink of the cup that I shall drink
of, and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? They say unto him, We are able. (23) And he saith
unto them, Ye shall drink indeed of my cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with: but to sit on my
right hand, and on my left, is not mine to give, but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared of my Father.
The perplexing part of the cup
Joh 6:52-56 The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying, How can this man give us his flesh to
eat? (53) Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and
drink his blood, ye have no life in you. (54) Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life;
and I will raise him up at the last day. (55) For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. (56) He that
eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.
The explanation of drinking blood
1Ch 11:16-19 And David was then in the hold, and the Philistines’ garrison was then at Bethlehem. (17) And David
longed, and said, Oh that one would give me drink of the water of the well of Bethlehem, that is at the gate! (18) And
the three brake through the host of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Bethlehem, that was by the gate,
and took it, and brought it to David: but David would not drink of it, but poured it out to the LORD, (19) And said, My
God
forbid it me, that I should do this thing: shall I
drink the blood of these men that have put their lives in jeopardy?
for with the jeopardy of their lives they brought
it. Therefore he would not drink it. These things did these three mightiest.
To drink of their blood: The meaning in metaphorical. As life is in the blood, any loss of life is considered the loss of
blood. As the mighty men of David broke through the host of the Philistines and secured the water from the well of
Bethlehem for the thirst of their king, he would not drink it. David felt that the life of his fellow companions was of more
value than his personal need for all were thirsty. David saw the value of the life of all who were with him.
In the following passage below, we see not the servants of the king risking their lives but rather, we see the king giving
his life for his servants.
Joh 6:52-56 The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying, How can this man give us his flesh to
eat? (53) Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and
drink his blood, ye have no life in you. (54) Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life;
and I will raise him up at the last day. (55) For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. (56) He that
eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.
As David would not drink of the blood of his servants that risked all for the water from the well, here, we understand that
Christ gives all and makes it plainly known that if they do not drink his blood, they have no part with him. It is here that
the servants are to realize that Christ will give his body for their sins and by his death through the shedding of his blood,
they can have life. They must drink of his blood. Even though this has a metaphorical meaning, a substance must be
consumed to fulfill this metaphor. As for David, water represented the blood of the men that hazard their lives. Likewise,
the metaphoric drink of the blood of Christ would be the fruit of the vine, the blood of the grape, and the eating of his
flesh would be the unleavened bread of the Lords supper.
Deu 32:…… and thou didst drink the pure blood of the grape.
1Co 11:23-25 For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night
in which he was betrayed took bread: (24) And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my
body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. (25) After the same manner also he took the cup,
when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in
remembrance of me.
The continuation of the Lords Table
When one sits at the table known as the Lords supper, they are partaking of the cup of the New Testament, This carries
with it the metaphorical example that we accept the betrothal of Christ and will faithfully wait for his return. It is also a
time when a new member added to the body by baptism are given the opportunity to partake of the cup and accept the
betrothal of Christ. Remember the church is a body created by God through repentance of sin and faith towards God
and our Lords Jesus Christ. Just being part of the body does not make you part of the Bride. Without the cup, there is
no bride.
