                  WATCHMAN, WHAT OF THE NIGHT?

                                Isaiah 21:11 “The Burden of Dumah. He calleth to me out of Seir,

                                  Watchman, what of the night? watchman, what of the night?

                                  Lamentations 2:19  Arise, cry out in the night: in the beginning of

                                the watches pour out thine heart like water before the face of the

                                Lord: lift up thy hands toward him for the life of thy young children,

                                that faint for hunger in the top of every street.

1 Thessalonians 5:2  For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.

Psa 90:4  For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night.

      WATCH WITH ME? CAN WE STAY AWAKE IN THESE DARK TIMES?

                                        Matthew  26:38-41    Then  saith  he  unto  them,  My  soul  is

                                        exceeding  sorrowful,  even  unto  death:  tarry  ye  here,  and

                                        watch with me. And he went a little further, and fell on his

                                        face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let

                                        this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou

                                        wilt.  And  he  cometh  unto  the  disciples,  and  findeth  them

                                        asleep,  and  saith  unto  Peter, What,  could  ye  not  watch

                                        with me one hour? Watch and pray, that ye enter not into

                                        temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

3 DIFFERENT TYPE OF WATCHES. TWO TYPES OF DARKNESS. LITERAL AND SPIRITUAL

                                        DARKNESS

1. The literal night of the death burial and resurrection of Christ. Within the period of a night, it begins with the

evening and then the morning. In the evening a 6PM the night watch begins and is divided into 4 watches. 6-9,

9-12, 12-3 and 3-6 AM

Each of the three days of Christ in the grave represents a watch in the night. The first, second and third day also

represents the first, the second and third watch of the night.

2. The entire existence of the Bride, the church is through the night seasons. The seasons are represented by

time periods.

3. Mat 25:6  And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.

EACH INDIVIDUAL WATCH REPRESENTS DIFFERENT PERIODS OF DARKNESS

THE NIGHT HOURS WERE DIVIDED INTO FOUR WATCHES. EACH NEW DAY, ALWAYS BEGINS

                                  IN THE EVENING

 
The  Church  that  Jesus  established  during  His  ministry,  was  started  in  the  first  watch  of  the  night,

meaning the entire church age is in the night, which is the approaching spiritual darkness and blindness

        THE WATCH IS SET. THE FIRST WATCH-EVENING – APOSTOLIC

Mat 27:64-66  Command therefore that the sepulchre be made sure until the third day, lest his disciples come

by night, and steal him away, and say unto the people, He is risen from the dead: so the last error shall be worse

than the first.  (65)  Pilate said unto them, Ye have a watch: go your way, make it as sure as ye can.  (66)  So

they went, and made the sepulchre sure, sealing the stone, and setting a watch.

                                      • 6PM – 9PM

                                    • Apostolic Times

                                    • 33AD – 312AD

                          THE SECOND WATCH-MIDNIGHT

Luke 12:38  And if he shall come in the second watch, or come in the third watch, and find them so, blessed

are those servants.

                                      • 9PM – 12PM

                                      • Dark Ages

                                    • 312AD – 1520AD

THE THIRD WATCH – COCK CROWING IS THE CHANGING OF THE GUARD OF EACH WATCH

Luke 12:38  And if he shall come in the second watch, or come in the third watch, and find them so, blessed

are those servants.

                                      • 12AM – 3AM

                              • Period of the Reformation

                                    • 1520AD – 1750AD

                              Sardis Church Age Rev 3:1-3

Rev 3:1-3  And unto the angel of the church in Sardis write; These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of

God,  and  the  seven  stars;  I  know  thy  works,  that  thou  hast  a  name  that  thou  livest,  and art  dead.   (2)  Be

watchful,  and strengthen  the  things which  remain,  that  are  ready  to  die: for I  have  not found  thy  works

perfect before God.  (3)  Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If

therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come

upon thee.

                      THE FOURTH WATCH-MORNING WATCH

Mat  14:24-25   But  the  ship  was  now  in  the  midst  of  the  sea,  tossed  with  waves:  for  the wind  was

contrary.  (25)  And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea.

Mark 6:48  And he saw them toiling in rowing; for the wind was contrary unto them: and about the fourth watch

of the night he cometh unto them, walking upon the sea, and would have passed by them.

                                      • 3AM – 6AM

                  • Age of deception of the enlightenment and intellect

                                  • 1750AD – Until Now

WE ARE COMMANDED TO WATCH, THE WATCH IS AT NIGHT. WATCH MEANS TO KEEP

                                          AWAKE

Mar 13:32-37  But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither

the Son, but the Father.  (33)  Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is.  (34)  For the

Son of man is as a man taking a far journey, who left his house, and gave authority to his servants, and to every

man his work, and commanded the porter to watch.  (35)  Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master

of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at the cockcrowing, or in the morning:  (36)  Lest coming suddenly

he find you sleeping.  (37)  And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch.
 

1 Corinthians 16:13  Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong.  

2 Timothy 4:4-5  And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. But watch

thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.

1 Peter 4:7-8  But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer. And above all

things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.

                    HE SHALL COME AS A THIEF IN THE NIGHT

1 Thessalonians 5:7  For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.

2 Peter 3:10  But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away

with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein

shall be burned up.

Imitation of Light: This is the time era that most of the different cults and denominations started.

Adventist  -Mormons-  Unitarism-  Jehovah  Witness-  Tongue  movement-  Charismatic  movement-  New  Age

Movement

Mat  14:24-25   But  the  ship  was  now  in  the  midst  of  the  sea,  tossed  with  waves:  for  the wind  was

contrary.  (25)  And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea.

This  is  when  the  contrary  winds  of  Atheism,  Skepticism,  Infidelity,  Ritualism,  Unitarianism,  Rationalism,

Spiritualism will blow.

We must remember the darkest hour of the night is just before the dawn.  

The coldest time of the night is in the latter part of the fourth watch from 3AM-6AM

Luk 18:8  …..Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith    on the earth?

          ARTIFICIAL LIGHT IN THE DARKNESS OF SEDUCING SPIRITS

1 Timothy 4:1, 1 Timothy 4:1  Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart

from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;

2Peter 2:1-22 Peter 2:1-2  But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false

teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and

bring upon themselves swift destruction. And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the

way of truth shall be evil spoken of.

              THE NIGHT IS FAR SPENT AND THE DAY IS AT HAND

Romans 13:12  The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and

let us put on the armour of light.

IN REGARD TO THE RETURN OF CHRIST, JESUS IS CALLED THE SUN OF RIGHTEOUSNESS.

HE IS THE LIGHT AND COMPARED TO THE SUN BRINGING FORTH A NEW DAY

Malachi 4:2  But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings;

and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.

                            JESUS IS THE MORNING STAR

Revelation 22:16  I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root

and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.
 

THE DAY STAR ARISE IN OUR HEARTS, UNDERSTANDING AND WAITING FOR TH E COMING

  OF CHRIST. THIS BRINGS FORTH A NEW DAY IN THE LIVES WE LIVE NOW

Peter 1:19  We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a

light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:
