“Revive Us Again”
“So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.” Isaiah 55: 11

William P. Mackey (1839-1885) was born in Montrose, Scotland. He left home at seventeen to go to school. His mother gave him a Bible with his name and a Bible verse written in it to help guide him as he went to college. As some college students do, William drifted into sin, dropped out of school, even pawning his Bible. He finally crawled out of his wicked decline, returned to school and became a doctor. He took up his residency, and during rounds one day, came across a laborer who was seriously injured. Day by day the patient deteriorated until it was obvious he was dying. His last wish was to contact his landlady to see if she would bring his book. After his death, “What shall I do with this?” asked a nurse of Mackay. It was a Bible! When the doctor looked at it, he realized it was his own Bible that he had pawned years ago! He took the Bible and went back to his office. He was moved and stunned by the verses his mother had underlined to help him. After several hours, he came out and resigned his position at the hospital to serve God. Later, he became a minister and wrote the hymn, “Revive Us Again,” which came out of his deep life experience. May God truly REVIVE US AGAIN, with HIS BOOK!! — C.S.
