The Command! II Corinthians 6:17
“The Command!”
“Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye sepa-
rate saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing, and I will
receive you. ” II Corinthians 6:17
Scripture commands that God’s children should be
disenfranchised from the world. Though living in it,
appreciating its good (I John 3:17), seeking to obey its laws
(Romans 13:1-8 & Titus 3: 1), respecting our superiors (I Peter
2:17) and trying to live peaceably with all men (Romans
12:18). Our salvation and calling declares that we should be a
peculiar people (Titus 2:14) and our final destination
distinctively sets us apart from the unsaved (II Peter 3:13).
In view of the eternity that awaits the born-again
Christian, he can gladly be identified as a stranger and pilgrim
on earth (Heb. 11:13), looking for a city whose builder and
maker is God (Heb. 11:10). We serve the King men did not
enthrone and therefore cannot dethrone! Pilate, in a frantic
effort to free himself from the wrath of Caesar and the Roman
Senate, scribbled on the cross: “THIS IS THE KING OF THE
JEWS” (Luke 23:38b). Indeed, a poor, if not sickly
designation for true deity. Heaven will correct what man
corrupts. Over sixty years later, in apocalyptic glory and
terror, Almighty God correctly designates His Son’s absolute
regal and political status!! He is King of kings! And, Lord of
lords! And, we are His forever! – R.P.
