“The Old, Plain Path”

“Teach me thy way, O LORD, and lead me in a plain path,
because of mine enemies.” Psalm 27: 11

When one generation doesn’t walk the old paths, it will
allow them to be grown over so that the next generation can’t
even find them. They hear about the way it used to be, but
they’ve never seen the path! They’ve never walked it with
anybody. They’ve never seen anybody walk it. The OLD
PATHS! THE ETERNAL WAYS! The old paths that are as old
as God; the course He charted before time! God said if we
don’t walk those paths, they’ll be overgrown and concealed
from sight. Negligence or abandonment of the path will soon
make it hard to find, if not impossible.
A man once took me to a place out West to show me a
stretch of the Oregon Trail. In years gone by it was well-
defined because of travel, but he had to lead me to it and show
me the wagon ruts that were grown over with under-brush and
briars. I would never have found it on my own. It was not a
plain, well-worn path.
You and I need to make sure we keep the path well
described. This is not a paved road; it’s a path! It is defined and
kept in existence by somebody using it by travel daily and
perpetuating it. “And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’
doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in
prayers. ” (Acts 2:42). To continue is to “go on with, to persist
at and to perpetuate something.” Let’s stay with the Old, Plain
Path! -D.C.
