Cast Your Anchor – John 17:4
“Cast Your Anchor”
“I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the
work which thou gavest me to do.” John 17:4
As John Knox lay dying in 1752, his last request was, “Go,
read where I cast my anchor.” Those around him read John 17,
as he breathed his last on this earth.
In this great chapter there are promises to the faint of heart,
as well as to the fervently faithful. The promises of our Lord
and the persuasive nature of conversion are coupled together
in a cornucopia of the Christian faith. For instance, we get to
know God (vs. 3); we get His Words (vs. 8); confidence in His
holy person (vs. 8b); His prayers for us (vs. 9); our permanent
relationship sealed (vss. 10-12); joy (vs. 13); His Word (vss.
14-18); a mission to perform and help to do His will (vss. 18-
20). Amen!
Do you recall the place and person in which you “cast your
anchor” of your faith? I worry about people that aren’t sure of
when they were saved! Could you imagine a child born into
modern society not knowing the date of their birth? The new
birth is far more consequential than one’s physical birth. The
spiritual regeneration of the soul is eternal. One’s physical
birth ties them genetically with the generations before; the
new birth connects one to the heredity of Jesus Christ, and the
opportunity to be holy, with the help of the Holy Spirit within!
Our anchor is firmly fixed in the Solid Rock-Christ Jesus! !
