“Giving Thanks!”

“Who have for my life laid down their own necks: unto
whom not only I give thanks, but also all the churches of the
Gentiles. ” Romans 16:4

Paul is referring to Aquila and Pricilla, who had shown
great courage for him. That is, they had, in some manner,
risked their lives to save Paul’s life.
This month there are two celebrations in America,
Veteran’s Day and Thanksgiving Day. The first is in honor of
those men and women who have in some manner risked their
lives, so that we might enjoy freedom and liberty. I know
there are lots of reasons some folks say, “Well, I don’t agree
with … ” and go on about some war, some conflict, etc.
However, what one must remember is that once a person raises
his hand and swears to defend the constitution and obey their
superiors, they have only to do what they are ordered to do … to
be a good soldier.
Then there is Thanksgiving Day, the time we remember
the hardships of the pilgrims and yet rejoicing that what they
encountered some four hundred years ago was worth it and
gives us much to be thankful for on this “true” holiday. It
should be a day when we ought to include much thanks and
prayer for what God has allowed us to enjoy.
So think about our veterans and our forefathers, and the
great price that was paid by both, giving us the opportunity to
thank and praise God for His grace on this “one nation, under
God, with liberty and justice for all.” -P.H.
