Should Christians in America feel any responsibility to participate in our electoral process? Should they even vote? Should pastors encourage their congregations to vote? I think the answer to these questions might range from “Absolutely!” to “Of course,” to “Duh?”

Christians should be the most informed and faithful voters in America. Pastors should conscientiously and consistently encourage their congregations to vote and Churches should, if possible make their facilities available as polling places. (Among other things, this demonstrate community leadership on the part of a church and creates a unique opportunity for interaction with people in the community).

Some pastors oppose participation by church members in the political process based upon the idea that such involvement somehow reflects negatively on a Christian’s spirituality and their faith that God is on His throne and sovereign over the affairs of earth, etc., etc. I have yet to find any scriptural justification for such arguments; but I’m open to correction.

I want to put this as gently as I can, but it is irresponsible at best that a pastor would take the position described above. and might rightly call into question…

(1) their overall capacity for the exercise of common sense, and…

(2) their ability to attain knowledge, understanding and wisdom relative to other matters. It is definitely wrong for a pastor or any Christian to “obsess” with politics, but I think it is unbiblical in principle and utterly foolish for any Christian to discourage another from voting; especially in today’s America.

The voting record of Christians in America is abysmal and shockingly, shameful, and pastors are partly to blame. If all Bible Believing Christians voted, communists (aka) Democrats) would never be elected to any political office in America. Christians who don’t vote help bad people win elections. They assist in the suicide of their own country, and will have only themselves to blame for the loss of liberties and opportunities that Christians, of all people, should want to help preserve.
