According to the King James Bible, the biblical order of headship within the family is outlined as follows:
1. **God**: At the pinnacle of the family structure is God Himself. He is the Creator and ultimate authority over all things, including the family unit. God’s Word serves as the foundation for the roles and responsibilities within the family.
2. **Man (Husband)**: The husband is appointed as the head of the family, under the authority of God. Ephesians 5:23 states, “For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.” The husband is called to love his wife sacrificially, just as Christ loves the church, and to lead his family with wisdom and integrity.
3. **Woman (Wife)**: The wife is called to submit to her husband’s leadership, as outlined in Ephesians 5:22, “Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.” This submission is not one of inferiority, but rather a recognition of God’s order within the family. The wife supports her husband and nurtures the family, respecting his leadership while contributing her own strengths and talents to the household.
4. **Children**: Within the family, children are to honor and obey their parents. Ephesians 6:1-2 instructs, “Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;)” Children are called to respect and obey their parents’ authority, recognizing their role as providers, protectors, and guides.
This biblical order of headship emphasizes the importance of love, respect, and mutual submission within the family unit, with each member fulfilling their respective roles according to God’s design.
