“Republics decline into democracies and democracies degenerate into despotisms.”—Aristotle

Why do Democrats and other communist Leftists keep talking about “Our Democracy” being “under threat,” and in need of being “protected and preserved,” etc. In fact, it is “Our Republic” that is “under threat,” and that needs to be “protected and preserved,”etc. Our Founding Fathers, political leaders and all informed Americans have historically and consistently wanted as little to do with “democracy” as possible. They saw and see democracy for what it has always been—a primary enemy to our Republic.

Historians Charles and Mary Beard wrote: “The founders of the Republic in general, whether Federalist or Republican, feared democracy more than they feared original sin.” John Winthrop (1588-1649), First Governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony , said: “Democracy is the meanest and worst of all forms of government.” John Adams (1735-1826) wrote: “Remember, democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, destroys and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet that didn’t commit suicide.” Over 2100 years before Adams was born, Plato (428-328 BC) had written: “Democracy leads to anarchy, which is mob rule.”

Simply put, A Republican form of government is one where the people hold supreme power, exercising it by electing accountable representatives to make laws and manage the country. A Democracy on the other hand, is a government where the majority rules, however vicious, vile, dangerous and destructive that majority may be.

John C. Calhoun (1782-1850) correctly said that democracy is, “The Government of [by] the absolute majority instead of the Government of [by] the people; and is but the Government of the strongest interests; and when not efficiently checked, it is the most tyrannical and oppressive that can be devised.”

People who keep referring to “Our Democracy” are either politically stupid or politically sinister. Democrats and others on the communist Left keep parroting the words “Our Democracy” because they are both politically, historically stupid and/or sinister to their core.

Americans need to understand, and make sure their children understand, that there is no such thing, other than in the wishful-thinking minds of Leftists and the ill-informed, as “Our Democracy.”
