“Pray For Yourself’
“Pray without ceasing. ” I Thessalonians 5 : 17
God expects Christians to pray for themselves. There is a false notion abroad in the land that God has a select few who have special favor and power in prayer. I’d remind you, however, the promise is to whosoever will. Simon Peter asked for faith for himself to walk on the water. He didn’t ask for all the disciples in the little boat that night. Hezekiah prayed for himself when Isaiah told him to set his house in order because he was going to die. The Apostle James said, “Elijah was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months ” (James 5:17). Blind Bartimaeus prayed for himself saying, “Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me …that I might receive my sight. ” (Mark 10:47 & 51). If I could bring Christians to the place they would sincerely pray for themselves, I would have accomplished a very worthwhile thing. Sir Isaac Newton, one of the greatest scientists of all times said, “I can look through a powerful telescope and see millions of miles into the heavens. On my knees alone in prayer, I can • see more of Heaven and get closer to God without the aid and assistance of any material agencies.” We need to pray for ourselves! — K.M
