“Acceptable Wrong!”
“Acceptable Wrong!”
“But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.” Hebrews 3:13
Recently, a major highway through our town was resurfaced. What was normally three lanes was cut down to one lane. The lanes were lined with orange barrels and cones. While sitting at a stoplight, about fifteen cars back, waiting for the light to turn green, I observed behavior that made me think. A car cut in between the cones, on to the newly paved lanes to make a right turn on red. Then another did the same and then another. (Oh, how I wish I had invested in orange barrels! TG) They did this for whatever reason, I suppose they didn’t want to wait and they didn’t see any harm in doing it or because it was convenient. Their actions were followed and copied by others. Now, what they did was illegal. Yet, there was no one there to enforce the law. No one was hurt! Most would say, “No harm—No foul.” However, we see this same attitude toward sin. We know what the Bible says, but it is not convenient to obey it. We see an opportunity to move ahead, advancing one’s position, or just doing it because one chooses to do so. These actions are followed by others. As a result, what is wrong becomes acceptable. Many wouldn’t even see it as wrong. Is wrong only wrong if you get caught? Is sin only sin when we deem it to be sinful? Is the law only for some? Think about it. —M.D MURRAY DOUGLAS, Pastor, Ludlow Hill Baptist Church, Lawrenceburg, IN
