“New Found Power”
“For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.” Romans7: 19

Strangely enough, Paul is now confronted with a seemingly small and simple thing he is unable to do. He has a strong will to do it, but how to perform that which is good, he found not. Good is attainable by mere willpower, determination and desire. Paul has already exhausted every available means through human ability to do good, only to end up in despair. He throws up his hands and says, “I want to do good, but I can’t.” What is Paul trying to attain? What does he mean when he says, “How can I perform what is good and can’t find it?” What is meant by good? The standard of God was intended to be too high for the human will. It cannot be touched and contaminated by the sinful passions and desires of the natural man. When Paul finally reached the end of himself, he graduated from the seventh of Romans, where he cried, “0 wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from this body of death?” He knows quite well now, it will take a supernatural power to deliver him. Thank God he found that power. Paul is now praising God, for his hope is in Christ and His Spirit alone! Why? “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. ” (Rom. 8:1). — K.M
