“Lending God’s Tools”
“He that bath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD; … ” Proverbs 19:17a

By God’s grace, the Lord has allowed me to have a fair number of tools along with a truck. I have had many friends and family, ask to borrow some of my tools, and even use my truck. At first, I was rather hesitant to lend out my tools or my truck, but the Lord convicted me of my selfishness, and reminded me, that since I am only a steward, all of those things actually belong to Him. The Lord gave me a different mindset and a new heart whenever someone asked to use them.

Here are a few principles to consider when lending:

1. Lend the items out cheerfully. The Lord loves a cheerful giver, and it truly is better to give than to receive.

2. Keep your own stuff in good condition. When someone asks to borrow your tools, you don’t want it to break on them. Taking care of what God has given you reveals to Him that you desire to be a faithful steward.

3. Teach them how to use the item if they are not familiar with it. This may take a little time, but it will be greatly beneficial to them. Remember, God knows and can see your generosity.

4. If they break the item while using it, keep a tender heart towards them. There will always be another tool to purchase or another truck to buy. Keeping a good relationship with your family and friends, as well as, a genuine testimony with the Lord is of much more eternal value. — S.T.
