“Producing The Right Product”

“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. ” Proverbs 22:6″ Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, … “. Ecclesiastes 12:1 a Jordan Peterson, in his New York Times, best-selling book, Twelve Rules for Life, says, “Proper discipline requires effort—indeed, is virtually synonymous with effort.” (pg. 124). Ecclesiastes 12:1 encourages starting the right way very early in life. Proverbs 22:6 by the use of the word child signifies the same thought. Peterson, seemingly following a biblical direction, says that, “Consistent correction…indicates the limits of acceptable aggression to a child” (pg. 124). The Bible clearly links biblical love with the proper act of discipline, “For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth ” (Heb. 12:6). Actually, leaving a child to himself, without setting clear boundaries, is a form of theft; the parent’s stealing from the child what is best for him (see Pro. 29:15). Biblical discipline involves both instruction and penalties. God’s Word gives the guidelines for proper behavior. The parent serves to judge that behavior and reward or penalize it. What efforts are you making to produce the right product? Paul wrote, “Children obey your parents in the Lord; for this is right. And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord ” (Eph. 6:1 &4) —G.G.
