Baptist Biographies and Happenings in American History. Dan Nelson

Book of the Week: Baptist Biographies and Happenings in American History.” A Chronological account of Baptist beginnings in America to the present day. The book is divided into two sections dealing with the 17th and 18th centuries when Baptists were struggling for survival and surprisingly suffered the brunt of persecution from groups that had fled to America for religious liberty themselves. The second section deals with how Baptists were established in America through missions, schools, and leaders. There are 44 biographies and six happenings and other topics. All in all, you will get the full lay of the land for understanding Baptists in America. Most American Baptist Histories are spotty, I wanted mine to be as chronological as possible. It is part one of a trilogy I am working on going backward in History. My second book: “Modern Baptist Origins: of the Anabaptist and English Baptist Movement” deals with Baptist History, struggles, and establishment in the 16th and 17th centuries. I am shopping it around to publishers. The final book will be a History of Baptistic groups before the Reformation. I have not started on that one yet. Contact me about the Baptist Biography book and I can send it to you. We can converse on messenger on Facebook or a Chat room on Me Wee. Here’s David Allen: Professor of Preaching and New Testament at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary review of my book: “Dan Nelson’s Baptist Biographies is a distinct contribution on Baptist history in America. In summary fashion, with no claim to being comprehensive, here in one accessible volume are wedded the twin concepts of biography and history chronologically narrated. There is no dry as dust retelling of history here. Rather, the Baptist story in America is told in a refreshingly captivating way that will benefit young and old alike.”
