Christian ladies and men, I think the biggest conflict we have when considering marital relationships as believers is in the matter of wives submitting to their husbands. The issue is founded in Ephesians 5:22-24, “Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.”Most wives have a real problem with doing so, and I understand that considering what men are like. We are so different from our wives and that difference is the friction that causes that uncomfortable heat in the marriage.Men are men, appreciate it. Ladies have often said that submission unto their own husband would be easier and more desirable, if the husband is more like Jesus. How much like Jesus does he have to be before you feel obligated to submit to him? Honest question, but an unfair expectation. A wife’s submission is not instructed by the husband, it cannot be demanded by him, but must be voluntary. Ladies, it is truly the Lord that requires your submission to your husband. Your willingness to be submissive is dependent on the holiness of Christ Jesus and not your husband. If you are unwilling to be submissive to your husband, you are not submissive to Christ Jesus. Being a godly wife is a ministry to your husband and family and service to the Lord.
