Yesterday at 1:33 AM · 370 years ago today (5 September 1651) Baptist preacher Obadiah Holmes was beaten in Boston on the very spot where, over a century later, the Boston massacre would take place. His crime? Preaching the Gospel in a private individual’s home. His stand for Christ that day proved a catalyst for freedom of religion’s being won in the Rhode Island Charter over a decade later.
