EQUALITY?

God designed marriage to replicate the relationship of Christ and His church. A husband portrays Christ, wives portray a church. A marital relationship is the same as the Christ and church relationship. Where in the divine design of either relationship do we find equality? Can we seriously consider a congregation of saved sinners either here on Earth or in Heaven, to be equal with the pure, holy, righteous, God the Son – Jesus Christ? It is not a husband’s purview to make or demand that his wife be submissive or reverent toward him. It is not within a wife’s purview to insist or demand that her husband love, lead, protect, or provide for her. Only the Holy Spirit is capable of and willing to influence a spouse to fulfill their God designed role. Our role in marital improvement is to do and be the best spouse that we can be with God’s help, regardless of the behavior of the other. Demanding or even expecting equality where God designed differences in identity and roles is a fool’s dream. God’s design and purpose is always best. Pursue it fervently, you’ll be glad you did.
