“Follow Me”
“And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. ” Matthew 4:19

Let me share something very deep and spiritual with you. The most important aspect of following Christ is to follow Him. That’s probably one of the most simple things you’ll read today, but it is one that must be emphasized in our lives. Too often we get distracted by good things that hinder us from simply following Jesus Christ.

The world and your world are becoming busier and busier every day. A generation ago public schools didn’t schedule events on Sundays or Wednesday nights, out of respect for God’s people and church. Stores and gas stations were closed on the Lord’s Day. Now we have activities every night of the week and all weekend long to participate in. Many establishments, even in rural areas, are open twenty-four hours a day, and need staff to cover those hours. No matter how good something seems, it can be a real problem if we allow it to distract us from our primary purpose of following Christ.

Seventeen times in the Gospel records the Lord Jesus Christ says to a person or a group of people “follow me.” Over and over again He emphasized the following nature of the Christian life. Our lives should be marked by how closely we follow the Lord Jesus Christ; how close we stay to Him and His Word. — P.F. PAUL FREDERICK, Pastor, Cornerstone Baptist Church, Salem IL
