“A Manger—Not A Mansion” Luke 2:6-7 KJV
“A Manger—Not A Mansion”
“For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost. ” Luke 19:10
So, why was Jesus born in a stable? Why was He laid in a manger and not born in a mansion? Remember, He is all man and He is all God! He came to earth to die on the cross. This is, in essence, answered in Luke 2:6-7 “And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.” Swaddling clothes were burial clothes.
But, the question still begs to be answered of why Jesus was born in a stable and laid in a manger and not in a mansion. Now, He was God in the flesh! He deserved a mansion, a place of dignity. But, had He been born in a mansion, the idea perhaps in the minds of some, salvation would have been only for the rich or for the “well-to-do.” He had been laid in a manger rather than a mansion, so that even the simplest or poorest of people could understand the Gospel, and put their faith and trust in Him.
Yes, He came to earth as a baby and died on the cross as a man to pay for your sin and mine! Now, what will you do or what have you done with the gift of salvation? — T.H. TIM HALLET JR., Pastor, Birch Street Baptist Church, Eau Claire, WI
