“Obeying The Call” Acts 20:22 KJB
“Obeying The Call”
“And now, behold, Igo bound in the spirit unto Jerusalem, not knowing the things that shall befall me there: ” Acts 20:22 KJB
Paul said he was going, not knowing what would happen. That is a summary of what the Christian life is all about—going without knowing. As followers of our Lord we believe He leads us in a specific direction or in pursuit of a precise goal. That leading is crystal clear, not always logical or explainable, but nevertheless, clear to those who He calls. Out of sheer obedience, we go. We pack our bags, say goodbye to friends and family, and head out. We face a future as uncertain as our leading is sure. How strange and yet how typical.
All of you who are reading this have walked a path and continue to do so in many respects. Sometimes you have struggled to convince others it was right. Maybe you have had to endure frowns and concerned counsel. Perhaps people around you were pointing out how misguided you were. They might have said that you were going in the wrong direction and to the wrong place.
Those we call missionaries have all stepped out of the boat to stand on “faith footing.” Going, yet not knowing. You begin a journey that is at best, unpredictable, risky, and untried. Some would say what you are going to do is totally insane; yet, you are prompted by none other than the Lord Himself. Maybe this is why God calls us strangers and pilgrims on this earth—be encouraged. —D.OHM DON OHM, Pastor, Lighthouse Baptist Church, San Antonio, TX
