A Church That Loves I Corinthians 13:13 (KJB)
“A Church That Loves”
“And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest ofthese is charity.” I Corinthians 13:13
Paul wrote previously, “But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way” (I Cor. 12:31). He spoke of charity in the thirteenth chapter about love being the greatest thing in the world. That’s the more excellent way. I care not how talented you are or how brilliant you are or how personable you are or how knowledgeable you are if you are a Christian—love people! That’s what the Bible teaches. And this church Jesus built is to be a loving church. First of all there ought to be love for Jesus, the Son of God, that surpasses all earthly love. Do you have this? I believe Christians will do things for Jesus they would not do for anyone else. And that ought to be true. Christians ought to love Jesus supremely and their love for Him should excel every earthly tie. There ought to be a great love for Jesus that never fades or wavers, for “Charity never faileth: …” (I Cor. 13:8a). The early church was a church characterized by a love for each other. Love for Jesus. Love for lost souls. That’s the kind of church Jesus built. Whenever you find a church that does not have that kind of love it’s not a New Testament, Biblebelieving church, modeling itself after the church Jesus built. He said, “… upon this rock I will build my church; … ” (Matt. 16:18). — T.M. February, 25, 2020
