The 70 weeks of Daniel

The purpose of this study is to understand the 70 weeks of Daniels vision concerning the holy city and the Jewish people. Because of the misunderstanding of this subject, there has been much confusion and error concerning prophecy and the book of Revelation. It is not my intention at this point to explain the book of Revelation but to simply state that it is to the last 7 years of Daniels vision. If the reader would read very carefully, he would conclude that the Revelation is not a 7 year book or the last week of Daniels vision. The 70 weeks are divided into three categories. The three categories are: 7 weeks, 62 weeks and 1 week. The formula of Daniels weeks is as follows.  Each day of the week equals a year and each week is 7 years. Therefore 7 weeks is 49 years. This is the time that includes the returning to the holy city after the captivity in order to rebuild the walls, city and temple. Below, the scripture demonstrates the first two categories in which the 70 weeks are divided. Seven and threescore and two weeks which is 62.

Dan 9:25  Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.

It is in the first 7 weeks the restoring of the city, building the walls and temple takes place. After the completion of this and the dedication of the temple, the time line of the 62 week commences. 62 weeks is equivalent to  434 years. When the 62nd week concludes of 434 years, the last week which is the 70th week will begin. Now let’s consider the following.

Dan 9:26  And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.

The scripture clearly states that it is after the conclusion of the 62 weeks (69th week) that Messiah will be cut off or crucified. It is not during the 62 weeks but AFTER that he will be crucified. Therefore logic will dictate that his crucifixion must be within the 70th week. If it is after the 69th week what other week is left in this determination upon the people and the holy city?

Dan 9:24  Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.

A total sum of 70 weeks is determined upon the people and the holy city. It is by the death of Christ and his resurrection that 6 things are to be accomplished. 1. To finish the transgression 2. To make an end of sins

3. To make reconciliation for iniquity 4. To bring in everlasting righteousness 5. To seal up the vision and prophecy 6. To anoint the most Holy.

The sermon notes below are provided to help the reader understand how these 6 points were fulfilled and in what week. Logic demands that the six points must be fulfilled as a result of Christ, his death and resurrection. If Christ was cut off after the 69th week, then the six points must have been fulfilled within the last week of the 70, for only 70 weeks are determined.

Here is a simple formula of deduction of the 69 weeks.

The Jewish calendar is a lunar orbit calendar. Our calendar if solar orbit calendar. Here is how we convert the Jewish calendar to a solar calendar. In conclusion, we will see where we are in time at the conclusion of the 69 weeks. This will bring us to Christ in the Jordon river.

69 weeks

Week =7 years (1 year per day)

69×7= 483 years

Convert to Jewish calendar

360 days per year (Jewish)  x 483 years = 173,880 days

173,880 days divided by Julian calendar of 365.25 per year (allows for leap year) = 476 Years.

In 445BC, the Jews left to rebuild the walls. From this time the clock starts. You have the first 7 weeks of building and the remaining 62 weeks until the Messiah comes. This is a total of 69 weeks or 476 years. When you calculate the Jews returning to rebuild the walls, city and temple is 445 B C and subtract that from the 476 of the 69 weeks, it will place you 30 A D, the time Christ starts his ministry and at John baptizing in the Jordon river.

Subtract: 476 total Jewish years is equal the 69 weeks

                445 BC

                ______

                   31 years AD

Minus.           1 (for beginning of year.)

                   _______

                     30 years AD

In conclusion, 476 years from the time the Jews left captivity to rebuild the city, walls and temple in 445 B.C. would bring you to Christ in the Jordan river being baptized by John. Christ was baptized 476 years after the Jews left their bondage. The baptism of Christ begins the last week of the 70. The last week is divided. The first 3 1/2 year of the 70th week is when Christ will die and the sacrifice and oblation cease. At the conclusion the Christ will make a covenant with the house of Israel. Jer 31:31 and Hebrews 8:8-10. This is the covenant that he made known as the New Testament in His blood. Hebrews 9 demonstrates how Christ being made a High Priest went in the Holy Place with his own blood. The second half is the overspreading of desolation and destruction. This began with the Jewish wars in 66 A.D. and concluded in 70 A.D.

If one were to say that the last week of the 70 is yet to be fulfilled, when was the following fulfilled?

Dan 9:24  Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.

If the last week of the 70 has not yet been fulfilled, we are most men most miserable. If the last week of the 70 is to be fulfilled in the book of the Revelation, can you demonstrate with scripture text from this book that this is so? In what chapter or verse do we find in the Revelation Christ finishing the transgression, making an end of sins, make reconciliation for iniquity, bringing in everlasting righteousness, seal up the vision and prophecy and anointing the most Holy?

I preached these 6 sermons that deal with these being fulfilled during the ministry of Christ.

To Finish Transgression

Dan 9:24  Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.

Transgression G3847 par-ab’-as-is From G3845; violation: – breaking, transgression.

Breaking the law is the transgression and the specific act identified is the sin.

Wounded for our transgressions

Isa 53:1-12  Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed?  (2)  For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.  (3)  He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.  (4)  Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.  (5)  But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.  (6)  All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.  (7)  He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.  (8)  He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.  (9)  And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.  (10)  Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.  (11)  He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.  (12)  Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

Understand, if there is no law, then there is no transgression

Rom 4:6-8  Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works,  (7)  Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.  (8)  Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.

Rom 4:13-16  For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.  (14)  For if they which are of the law be heirs, faith is made void, and the promise made of none effect:  (15)  Because the law worketh wrath: for where no law is, there is no transgression.  (16)  Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all,

Christ obeyed the law for himself

This law included all his mediatorial works and sufferings, “for he learned obedience by the things which he suffered.” It is sometimes said, “that Christ obeyed all the precepts of the moral law, and bore the penalty, or curse of the same law, for us.” But the propriety of the saying is difficult to conceive of. If Christ obeyed all the precepts of the law for us, then for us there was no penalty due; other-wise punishment would be inflicted where there was no crime. It is best, therefore, to say, that he obeyed the law for himself, and suffered the penalty for us. ” He bore our sins in his own body on the tree.”

Second. It was necessary that Christ should give evidence of his complex character, and show forth his glory.

To finish transgression is to eliminate the law that was broken. After faith comes, we are no longer under a schoolmaster which is the law, therefore we conclude that transgression has been finished.

Gal 3:16-26  Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.  (17)  And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect.  (18)  For if the inheritance be of the law, it is no more of promise: but God gave it to Abraham by promise.  (19)  Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.  (20)  Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one.  (21)  Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law.  (22)  But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.  (23)  But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed.  (24)  Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.  (25)  But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.  (26)  For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.

The law of the Spirit of life in Christ

Rom 8:1-4  There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.  (2)  For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.  (3)  For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:  (4)  That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

The finishing of transgression is the salvation we are not to neglect

Heb 2:1-3  Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.  (2)  For if the word spoken by angels was stedfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompence of reward;  (3)  How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;

Whoever sins transgresseth the law… sins…He was manifested to take away our sins.

1Jn 3:1-10  Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.  (2)  Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.  (3)  And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.  (4)  Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.  (5)  And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.  (6)  Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.  (7)  Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.  (8)  He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.  (9)  Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.  (10)  In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.

To make an end of sins

Dan 9:24  Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.

The particular focus of salvation

Mat 1:21  And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.

To this particular people, Christ made a new covenant

Jer 31:31-34  Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:  (32)  Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD:  (33)  But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.  (34)  And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.

Dan 9:26-27  And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.  (27)  And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

Rom 11:26-27  And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob:  (27)  For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins.

Herein is the purpose and the process of the covenants concerning our sin. We sinned, and because man brought sin into the world, God established the first covenant with man known as the law where sacrifice would be made. Not that it would forgive sins, for by the law no flesh shall be justified. This first covenant was a type of sacrifice that was in Christ. For this purpose, Christ would make a NEW covenant with the house of Israel. The first covenant was enjoined by blood, and so was the second testament.

Heb 9:15  And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.

Gal 3:15-19  Brethren, I speak after the manner of men; Though it be but a man’s covenant, yet if it be confirmed, no man disannulleth, or addeth thereto.  (16)  Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made.

Mat 26:28  For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

Remission – G859 af’-es-is From G863; freedom; (figuratively) pardon: – deliverance, forgiveness, liberty, remission.

G863af-ee’-ay-mee From G575 and ἵημι hiēmi (to send; an intensive form of εἶμι eimi (to go)); to send forth, in various applications: – cry, forgive, forsake, lay aside, leave, let (alone, be, go, have), omit, put (send) away, remit, suffer, yield up.

The realization of sin produces love for the saviour

Luk 7:44-50  And he turned to the woman, and said unto Simon, Seest thou this woman? I entered into thine house, thou gavest me no water for my feet: but she hath washed my feet with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head.  (45)  Thou gavest me no kiss: but this woman since the time I came in hath not ceased to kiss my feet.  (46)  My head with oil thou didst not anoint: but this woman hath anointed my feet with ointment.  (47)  Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little.  (48)  And he said unto her, Thy sins are forgiven.  (49)  And they that sat at meat with him began to say within themselves, Who is this that forgiveth sins also?  (50)  And he said to the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace.

Joh 8:23-24  And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world.  (24)  I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.

Act 26:18  To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.

Suffered for sins and to bring us to God

1Pe 3:18  For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:

To make an end of sins is continued by virtue of the advocate. My future sins become my past sins

1Jn 2:1-2  My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:  (2)  And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

Making an end of sins that are past

Rom 3:24-25  Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:  (25)  Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;

He will remember my sins no more

Heb 8:12  For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.

To make reconciliation for iniquity

Dan 9:24  Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.

Iniquity H5771 aw-vone’, aw-vone’ From H5753; perversity, that is, (moral) evil: – fault, iniquity, mischief, punishment (of iniquity), sin.

Dan 9:13  As it is written in the law of Moses, all this evil is come upon us: yet made we not our prayer before the LORD our God, that we might turn from our iniquities, and understand thy truth.

Typology of the goat in the wilderness

Lev 16:20-22  And when he hath made an end of reconciling the holy place, and the tabernacle of the congregation, and the altar, he shall bring the live goat:  (21)  And Aaron shall lay both his hands upon the head of the live goat, and confess over him all the iniquities of the children of Israel, and all their transgressions in all their sins, putting them upon the head of the goat, and shall send him away by the hand of a fit man into the wilderness:  (22)  And the goat shall bear upon him all their iniquities unto a land not inhabited: and he shall let go the goat in the wilderness.

Unjustly punished for iniquities

Ezr 9:13  And after all that is come upon us for our evil deeds, and for our great trespass, seeing that thou our God hast punished us less than our iniquities deserve, and hast given us such deliverance as this;

Unable to know  the quantity of our iniquity

Job 13:23  How many are mine iniquities and sins? make me to know my transgression and my sin.

Unable to bear the burden of our iniquities

Psa 38:3-4  There is no soundness in my flesh because of thine anger; neither is there any rest in my bones because of my sin.  (4)  For mine iniquities are gone over mine head: as an heavy burden they are too heavy for me.

Unable to stand

Psa 130:3  If thou, LORD, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand?

Under the control of our own  iniquities

Pro 5:22  His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be holden with the cords of his sins.

“We” have separated ourselves from God the Father

Isa 59:1-2  Behold, the LORD’S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear:  (2)  But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.

Jesus came to turn us from our iniquities

Act 3:24-26  Yea, and all the prophets from Samuel and those that follow after, as many as have spoken, have likewise foretold of these days.  (25)  Ye are the children of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying unto Abraham, And in thy seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed.  (26)  Unto you first God, having raised up his Son Jesus, sent him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from his iniquities.

Rom 4:6-7  Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works,  (7)  Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.

Heb 8:12-13  For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.  (13)  In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.

Conclusion by crucifixion

Heb 10:16-18  This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them;  (17)  And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.  (18)  Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.

Isa 53:5  But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

Isa 53:11-12  He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.  (12)  Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

The ministry of reconciliation

2Co 5:17-21  Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.  (18)  And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;  (19)  To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.  (20)  Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.  (21)  For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

Heb 2:17  Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.

To bring in everlasting righteousness

Dan 9:24  Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.

Heb 1:8  But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.

Luk 22:29-30  And I appoint unto you a kingdom, as my Father hath appointed unto me;  (30)  That ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

Dan 2:44  And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.

The visible church is the Divine depository of the kingdom; containing laws, scepter, subjects, ordinances. The kingdom laws and practices will continue into the millennial reign of Christ.

Rom 14:17  For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.

Heb 1:8  But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.

Rev 19:8  And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.

Rev 19:11  And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.

Act 17:31  Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.

Rev 20:6  Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.

As the scriptures declare, the God of heaven will set up a kingdom in the days of these kings, meaning the days of the Caesars of Rome. Thus was Christ born in the days of Caesar Augustus and was crucified in the days of Tiberius.

In the days of these kings

Luk 2:1-6  And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed.  (2)  (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.)  (3)  And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.  (4)  And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)  (5)  To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.  (6)  And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.

Luk 3:1-6  Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judaea, and Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of Ituraea and of the region of Trachonitis, and Lysanias the tetrarch of Abilene,  (2)  Annas and Caiaphas being the high priests, the word of God came unto John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness.  (3)  And he came into all the country about Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins;  (4)  As it is written in the book of the words of Esaias the prophet, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.  (5)  Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low; and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough ways shall be made smooth;  (6)  And all flesh shall see the salvation of God.

Mat 3:15  And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.

Mat 21:32  For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye had seen it, repented not afterward, that ye might believe him.

Extended to those who hunger for the righteousness Christ brought in

Mat 5:6  Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

Those who seek the righteousness he brought in

Mat 6:33  But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

This righteousness is accessed by faith

Rom 3:20-26  Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.  (21)  But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets;  (22)  Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:  (23)  For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;  (24)  Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:  (25)  Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;  (26)  To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.

Rom 10:6-10  But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above:)  (7)  Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.)  (8)  But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;  (9)  That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.  (10)  For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

By righteousness of one, the free gift came

Rom 5:17-21  For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)  (18)  Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.  (19)  For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.  (20)  Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:  (21)  That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.

Walking in the newness of life as instruments of righteousness

Rom 6:3-4  Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?  (4)  Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

Rom 6:12-13  Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.  (13)  Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.

Seventy weeks continued… bringing in everlasting righteousness by way of the Holy Ghost. The giving of the Holy Ghost was at Pentecost.

Rom 8:8-11  So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.  (9)  But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.  (10)  And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.  (11)  But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

Eph 5:8-10  For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:  (9)  (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)  (10)  Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.

Php 1:11  Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.

Rom 10:1-3  Brethren, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved.  (2)  For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge.  (3)  For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.

Being made the righteousness of God

2Co 5:20-21  Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.  (21)  For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

The Bible is the instruction book of righteousness

2Ti 3:16-17  All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:  (17)  That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

Heb 5:13-14  For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.  (14)  But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

Heb 12:11  Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.

Wrath will hinder the righteousness that Christ brought in

Jas 1:19-21  Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:  (20)  For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.  (21)  Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.

When was everlasting righteousness brought in? It was brought in by the strips upon his back

1Pe 2:24  Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

The conclusion of the kingdom

In understanding the kingdom, it was established during the ministry of Christ and invested in the church. In the millennial reign, those faithful of the kingdom now, will execute this righteousness until all enemies are destroyed. In the end, the Christ will yield up the kingdom unto God the Father.

1Co 15:24-28  Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power.  (25)  For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet.  (26)  The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.  (27)  For he hath put all things under his feet. But when he saith all things are put under him, it is manifest that he is excepted, which did put all things under him.  (28)  And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all.

2Pe 3:13  Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

Seal up the vision and prophecy

Dan 9:24  Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.

The meaning of “seal up”: Set in place and cannot be changed. Cannot add to or take away.

Seal up ;H2856 ; to close up; especially to seal: – make an end, mark, seal (up), stop.

Job 9:7  Which commandeth the sun, and it riseth not; and sealeth up the stars.

Daniel interprets the visions of Nebuchadnezzar in regard to the image with the head of gold, breast and arms of silver, belly and thighs of brass and legs of Iron and feet mixed with clay. This represents the kingdoms to come. This understanding of this vision plays and continual theme of the coming visions that Daniel will have.

Chapter 7: The visions of Daniel until the coming of Christ

The four beast coming up out of the sea

Dan 7:2  Daniel spake and said, I saw in my vision by night, and, behold, the four winds of the heaven strove upon the great sea.

 Babylon: Like a lion

Dan 7:4  The first was like a lion, and had eagle’s wings: I beheld till the wings thereof were plucked, and it was lifted up from the earth, and made stand upon the feet as a man, and a man’s heart was given to it.

 Persia : Like a bear

Dan 7:5  And behold another beast, a second, like to a bear, and it raised up itself on one side, and it had three ribs in the mouth of it between the teeth of it: and they said thus unto it, Arise, devour much flesh.

 Greek: Like a leopard

Dan 7:6  After this I beheld, and lo another, like a leopard, which had upon the back of it four wings of a fowl; the beast had also four heads; and dominion was given to it.

 Dreadful exceedingly: Rome

Dan 7:7  After this I saw in the night visions, and behold a fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, and strong exceedingly; and it had great iron teeth: it devoured and brake in pieces, and stamped the residue with the feet of it: and it was diverse from all the beasts that were before it; and it had ten horns.

Who is the horn?

Dan 7:8  I considered the horns, and, behold, there came up among them another little horn, before whom there were three of the first horns plucked up by the roots: and, behold, in this horn were eyes like the eyes of man, and a mouth speaking great things.

Chapter 8: The vision of Antiochus and the pollution of the temple

Dan 8:13  Then I heard one saint speaking, and another saint said unto that certain saint which spake, How long shall be the vision concerning the daily sacrifice, and the transgression of desolation, to give both the sanctuary and the host to be trodden under foot?

Dan 8:15-17  And it came to pass, when I, even I Daniel, had seen the vision, and sought for the meaning, then, behold, there stood before me as the appearance of a man.  (16)  And I heard a man’s voice between the banks of Ulai, which called, and said, Gabriel, make this man to understand the vision.  (17)  So he came near where I stood: and when he came, I was afraid, and fell upon my face: but he said unto me, Understand, O son of man: for at the time of the end shall be the vision.

Persia

Dan 8:19-25  And he said, Behold, I will make thee know what shall be in the last end of the indignation: for at the time appointed the end shall be.  (20)  The ram which thou sawest having two horns are the kings of Media and Persia.

Greek

(21)  And the rough goat is the king of Grecia: and the great horn that is between his eyes is the first king.

4 Generals of Alexander

Cassander, Ptolomey, Selucid, Lysimachus

(22)  Now that being broken, whereas four stood up for it, four kingdoms shall stand up out of the nation, but not in his power.

The coming of Antiochus

(23)  And in the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors are come to the full, a king of fierce countenance, and understanding dark sentences, shall stand up.  (24)  And his power shall be mighty, but not by his own power: and he shall destroy wonderfully, and shall prosper, and practise, and shall destroy the mighty and the holy people.  (25)  And through his policy also he shall cause craft to prosper in his hand; and he shall magnify himself in his heart, and by peace shall destroy many: he shall also stand up against the Prince of princes; but he shall be broken without hand.

Understand the vision: This man (angel) Gabriel is in the beginning of the vision

The angel Gabriel is found 4 times in the scriptures. It appears that his purpose is the visions of Daniel in the last days and the announcement of John the Baptist and Jesus Christ.

Dan 8:15-16  And it came to pass, when I, even I Daniel, had seen the vision, and sought for the meaning, then, behold, there stood before me as the appearance of a man.  (16)  And I heard a man’s voice between the banks of Ulai, which called, and said, Gabriel, make this man to understand the vision.

Dan 9:20-22  And whiles I was speaking, and praying, and confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my supplication before the LORD my God for the holy mountain of my God;  (21)  Yea, whiles I was speaking in prayer, even the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, being caused to fly swiftly, touched me about the time of the evening oblation.  (22)  And he informed me, and talked with me, and said, O Daniel, I am now come forth to give thee skill and understanding.

The angel Gabriel who stands in the presence of God no sent to prepare the way for John the Baptist and Jesus Christ to fulfill the kingdom

Luk 1:19  And the angel answering said unto him, I am Gabriel, that stand in the presence of God; and am sent to speak unto thee, and to shew thee these glad tidings.

Luk 1:25-33  Thus hath the Lord dealt with me in the days wherein he looked on me, to take away my reproach among men.  (26)  And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth,  (27)  To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary.  (28)  And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.  (29)  And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be.  (30)  And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.  (31)  And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.  (32)  He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:  (33)  And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.

The purpose is to bring to pass that which was mentioned in the beginning of the vision

Dan 2:36-45  This is the dream; and we will tell the interpretation thereof before the king.  (37)  Thou, O king, art a king of kings: for the God of heaven hath given thee a kingdom, power, and strength, and glory.  (38)  And wheresoever the children of men dwell, the beasts of the field and the fowls of the heaven hath he given into thine hand, and hath made thee ruler over them all. Thou art this head of gold.

Persia and the Greek

(39)  And after thee shall arise another kingdom inferior to thee, and another third kingdom of brass, which shall bear rule over all the earth.

Rome

 (40)  And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron: forasmuch as iron breaketh in pieces and subdueth all things: and as iron that breaketh all these, shall it break in pieces and bruise.  (41)  And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part of potters’ clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, forasmuch as thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay.

Ten toes of iron mixed with clay is the nations of Europe. This is the partitioning of Rome, also known as the 10 horns or the ten kings

(42)  And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken.  (43)  And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay.

The kingdom of God being set up via his churches until the Messianic 1000 year reign

(44)  And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.  (45)  Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it brake in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter: and the dream is certain, and the interpretation thereof sure.

In the process of time, this prophecy will be understood

Dan 12:4  But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.

Dan 12:9  And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end.

To Anoint the most Holy

Dan 9:24  Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.

The anointing of Jesus in body by the Holy Ghost

Luk 4:18-19  The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,  (19)  To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.

Act 4:26-28  The kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord, and against his Christ.  (27)  For of a truth against thy holy child Jesus, whom thou hast anointed, both Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles, and the people of Israel, were gathered together,  (28)  For to do whatsoever thy hand and thy counsel determined before to be done.

Act 10:37-40  That word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judaea, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached;  (38)  How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.  (39)  And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on a tree:  (40)  Him God raised up the third day, and shewed him openly;

The anointing of the Most Holy. Is the
“Most Holy” a place or person? Or a person represented by a particular place?

Heb 9:8-12  The Holy Ghost this signifying, that the way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest, while as the first tabernacle was yet standing:  (9)  Which was a figure for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience;  (10)  Which stood only in meats and drinks, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed on them until the time of reformation.  (11)  But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building;  (12)  Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.

1. The figure for the time: The tabernacle of Moses or the temple that Solomon built, rebuilt by Zerubbabel and repaired by Herod was a figure of the physical body of Jesus Christ.

2. Time of reformation: The ending of burdensome ceremonies, rituals and sacrifices by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ as the lamb of God upon the cross. This is when he will in the midst of the 70th week  make a covenant with the house of Israel and cause the sacrifice and oblation to cease.

Heb 10:17-20  And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.  (18)  Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.  (19)  Having therefore, brethren, boldness t enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus,  (20)  By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;

3. Greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands:  Jesus who was the begotten of God the Father , born of a virgin as glorified tabernacle that was made without human hands including the resurrected body of Christ without the help or aid of man.

Christ as the High Priest in heaven  for us

Heb 9:24  For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us:

Christ entered into the holy place in heaven for us and is set down on the right hand of God the Father making intercession for us. Christ appears in the court of heaven for his saints, by representing their persons; by presenting himself, his blood, sacrifice, and righteousness, before God on their account; by introducing them into the presence of God, and offering up their prayers with the incense of his mediation; by presenting them to himself, and to his Father, and obtaining every blessing for them.

The sanctuary and the true tabernacle which the Lord pitched and not man is his body the church

Heb 8:1-2  Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens;  (2)  A minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man.

Christ is the head of his church and the minister thereof. He is at the right hand of the Father expecting until his enemies become his footstool. This is the true tabernacle which the Lord pitched and not man. The Lord Jesus Christ established his church, for it has no earthly founder. It is what the Lord pitched according to his promise as in the days of these kings, I will set up a kingdom to which there will be no end nor given to another people.

Act 7:37-38  This is that Moses, which said unto the children of Israel, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear.  (38)  This is he, that was in the church in the wilderness with the angel which spake to him in the mount Sina, and with our fathers: who received the lively oracles to give unto us:

As Moses was over his house, the house of the nation of  Israel, so is Christ over His house, the holy nation, the church

Heb 3:4-10  For every house is builded by some man; but he that built all things is God.  (5)  And Moses verily was faithful in all his house, as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were to be spoken after;  (6)  But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end.  (7)  Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice,  (8)  Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness:  (9)  When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my works forty years.  (10)  Wherefore I was grieved with that generation, and said, They do alway err in their heart; and they have not known my ways.

1. The testimony of those things:

2. Whose house are we:

3. Have not know my ways:
