The Three Stooges – Proverbs 16:27-29 (No, not those stooges!)
“The Three Stooges”
“An ungodly man diggeth up evil: and in his lips there is as a burning fire. A froward man soweth strife: and a whisperer separateth chief friends. A violent man enticeth his neighbor, and leadeth him into the way that is not good. ” Proverbs 16:27-29 (No, not those stooges!).
An ungodly man, a froward man and a violent man make up this terrible trio of fools. Each stooge or fool has a well described attribute that illustrates his entrance into this unholy-trinity of trouble. The ungodly man goes around looking for evil reports and if he can’t find any, he gets a shovel and starts excavating! The froward man is intractable and difficult to deal with as he sows strife among friends with his mouth. The violent man encourages others to join him in his evil ways. The ungodly, forward and violent men are found in pulpits, pews, Sunday school classes and other more conspicuous places—like the U.S. House of Representatives! Congress also reminds me of the Keystone Kops of a bygone day! The ungodly man has an untimely end according to Psalms 1:4-6 and rightfully so. The froward man or one with a froward heart is not welcome in the presence of those that choose to do right (cf. Psa. 101:4). The consequences and separation for the violent man is synonymous with the life he lived while on earth (cf. Psa. 140:4 & 11). My title today was just to catch your attention. I trust none of the characteristics of this ungodly, froward and violent triumvirate will be characterized in your walk, conduct or conversation today and always. — T.G.
