This Little Light Of Mine – Matthew 5 : 16
“This Little Light Of Mine”
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. ” Matthew 5 : 16
One of my fond memories as a Baptist pastor was to see our young people on Flatbush Avenue, in New York City, where five corners came together, conducting a street meeting. Our young people played instruments, sang and a pastor preached. People stood nearby and listened. We gave out Gospel tracts to many people. One afternoon, we all went to a ball game at Yankee Stadium. We sat together and were identified as Christians by words and symbols on our clothing. When the soda man came down the steps, calling, “Coca-Cola,” one of the girls from our church in Muncy, PA, ordered a large drink. The man said, “I don’t have change for your money, here is your drink, n come back later.” When he came back our way, the girl stood up and called to the vendor, waving the exact cost of the Coke (she had gotten change). The salesman was shocked, his complexion changed, he pointed to the girl and loudly proclaimed, “You are honest. Your Coke is free!” Our Saviour said, “…I am the light of the world:” (John 8:12). He also said that we were to be lights in the world (cf. Matt. 5:14-16). I am sure some soul-winning activities are a greater light than our honest teen. However, the Lord blesses all lights, great or small. I’ll never forget the young girl’s testimony, and I believe the soda man will never forget it either. — G.F.
