Baptist History, Heritage & Distinctives
Daniel Merrill set out to write a book against the Baptist. He painstakingly studied the Bible for months to prove Protestant infant rhantism was the proper mode of baptism. With no help of lexicons, commentaries and with no human interference Daniel Merrill discovered the true meaning of believer’s baptism. Thus he found the doorway into a Biblical New Testament church and the kingdom of God.
I truly believe that the protestant version of Daniel Merrill was a born again Christian. It was Brother Merrill’s burning desire to know the truth no matter what the cost and God honored his quest when the Holy Spirit illuminated his mind; unraveling the strong presuppositions he fervently clung to as a Congressional minister.
He stood in awe that the Baptist model of a local assembly was in continuity and in accordance to the kingdom of God and the church which Jesus Christ set up during this earthly ministry. He could find neither book, nor chapter or verse which would disagree with his conclusion.
2 Corinthians 2:9 “But as it is written, eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepare for them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.”
