Baptist History, Heritage and Distinctives – Landmark Doctrine is not a 19th Century Invention – The Swiss Brethren (Anabaptists) in 1527, just two years after their formation, created the Schleitheim Confession, which contains seven articles. A careful reading of this confession reveals a belief in the local church (Art. 2 and 3) and closed/close communion (Art. 3).
Why is this noteworthy? Because it shows that these positions are not an invention of nineteenth century Baptists. Presented by Thomas E. Kresal from: Crosby, History of the Baptist.
