“Reason or Rebel” Isaiah 1:18-20

“Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land: But if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword: … ” Isaiah 1:18-20a

Rebellion and reason are mutually exclusive. I often have people ask, “Pastor, why don’t you go and reason with them; maybe they will come back.”

Moses did not try to reason with Korah. Joshua did not try to reason with Achan. Daniel did not try to reason with the princes of the court of the king. Jesus did not try to reason with the Pharisees. In every case, the man standing for truth confronted the rebel(s) with the truth and left the rebel to make a decision.

The father of the prodigal son did not run after his son and try to reason with him. Why? Because the father knew the principle the other people of truth already knew: You cannot reason with a rebel!

The key to the reconciliation between the father and his son is found in Luke 15:17, “…and when he came to himself, ” The rebel must accept his rebellion as sin, like he did in Luke 15:18, before he can reason and be reconciled.

In the matter of soul-winning or restoring the sinning believer, there must be a coming to one’s self before reasoning from righteousness can occur. REASON OR REBEL! The choice is yours. — G.G.
