INTERRUPTIONS AT WORK cause stress levels to spike. When researchers set up a simulated office environment and exposed study subjects to workplace stressors, they found that levels of the stress hormone cortisol were highest when workers were often interrupted by urgent messages from their bosses. And yet those participants did not report subjectively feeling like they were under great duress. Study by researchers at ETH Zurich, Switzerland, published in Psychoneuroendocrinology.
