Western Christian culture has lost most of its spiritual power because it has embraced the oldest and most insidious form of idolatry. The worship of the womans will as being superior to the mans headship responsibility is the modern mantra of spirituality. Groups like Promise Keepers promote the idea that it is the husband’s job to make his wife happy. However, if a wife cannot follow the leadership of a godly husband, even God Himself cannot make her happy, because in denying the husbands headship, she is denying the God who made it so. When Eve chose to listen to the Serpent rather than her God ordained head Adam, feminism was born. When Adam chose to listen to his wife instead of his God ordained head, God Himself, sin came upon the whole human race. Things have gotten progressively worse since then. Today, male leadership is rare and generally faces a firestorm when implemented. I don’t mean tyranny, but godly men stepping up to the plate and being the men God has called them and designed them to be. Representing the headship of Christ over His churches is one of the purposes of godly marriage.
