Against Or For? Matthew 12: 30a
“Against Or For?”
“He that is not with me is against me; … ” Matthew 12: 30a
Having the Word of God against you is indeed a terrible, disastrous calamity. For instance, “…I am against you, saith the Lord GOD.” (Ezek. 13 :8b). Nevertheless, to have the Word of God for you is a terrific, desirable condition. “No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; ” (Isa. 54:17).
I read about two Romanists, a man and his wife, who many years ago possessed a copy of the Scriptures, of which they had never seen before. The husband began to read it and one night, as he sat beside the fire, with the Word of God said, “Wife, if this Book is right, we are wrong.” He continued reading and a few days later bemoaned, “Wife, if this Book is right, we are lost.” More interested and eager than ever before to see what the Word of the Lord said, he studied the Book until one night he could joyfully, exclaim, “Wife, if this Book is true, we are saved!”
The same Book that showed them that they were undone, unprepared and unsaved, also, revealed to them the Gospel of Salvation. That is the Glory of the Word of God. It is against us until it leads us out of our sin to our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Then it becomes a fountain of life and a spring of living water! Before it was against us but now it justifies us and “…if God be for us, who can be against us?” (Rom. 8:31b) — G.T.
