April 18 at 8:57 PM · I know some preachers will probably say, “Don’t use the word ‘doctrine.’ People are turned off by doctrine.” To those preachers doctrine and theology are unimportant. They want to give sermons on man’s needs, rather than doctrine. So we don’t hear very many sermons on the doctrine of soteriology, or on the doctrine of predestination, or the doctrine of reprobation, or the doctrine of demonology, or the doctrine of ecclesiology, or any other theological doctrine. Most sermons today have thus become man-centered rather than God-centered and theology-centered…..most preachers today start out thinking about man’s needs – instead of thinking about the doctrines and theological truths in the Scriptures. Here are some modern sermon titles that illustrate this “man-centered” approach to preaching. These are actual titles: “Taking Responsibility for Your Life,” “Staying in Love,” “Cure for the Common Life,” “God Thinks You’re Wonderful,” “So Long, Insecurity,” “Balanced Living,” “Start Losing, Start Living,” “Becoming a Better You,” “Live Your Best Life Now,” “Discovering Your Identity,” “Managing Your Moods.” And here’s one that says it all, “Laugh Your Way to a Better Marriage.” I’m not saying that there isn’t anything helpful in these messages. There probably is. I’m saying that the very titles show how man’s needs, rather than Bible doctrines and Bible theology, are at the center of most sermons today. – R. L. Hymers

April 19 at 8:18 PM · WE HAD MEN OF GOD THAT WE WERE LITERALLY AFRAID OF…there were men that struck fear in our soul because we knew that they could see our wicked heart…..Like Samuel of old, we wanted to know, “Are you here in judgement?”. Oh for days when preachers struck awe in the heart of God’s people and especially sinners. Nowadays… we strive to be humorous instead of holy. Old-time preachers were obscure and set apart which was part of their appeal. We always wondered and rarely ever found out what they were like in their private lives. – M L Qualls

The reoccurring theme in our meetings today is about overcoming discouragement and weathering your storms. Although this is a needed subject, we need the bark preached off our hides every now and then. The reason most preachers don’t preach this way any more is because their spandex-wearing wife won’t let ‘em.” – Qualls

I NEED SOME HELP WITH THIS!
Recently someone sent me this: They said, “I’m trying to establish a point that clothing is a moral issue and that it means something.” and “I have friends that see this issue of crossdressing as wrong but not the other way around.” and “If clothing is just all culture and opinion we can’t say anything about it. But if clothing is ordained by God there is much more involved?”Then they said, “When women wear pants they often say that they feel much more comfortable in one but this guy feels the same way. it’s not about our feelings. Did you know that Adam and Eve were alone and wore clothes before there was any other human?”And then they said, It’s not just to cover nakedness but to identify who you are, to give a message. You can recognize a sailor by what they wear, a fireman, a police officer, and so you should be able to identify a man and woman. What is your Biblical basis for your belief?Remember that high heels are not mentioned in the Bible because they all wore sandals back then. Remember that this person is straight, married, has children, and feels more comfortable in his new outfit. He has 100’s, probably thousands, of people who support his right to “be himself”. One person says, “My male partner is also dabbling in wearing skirts at home. His view is nothing separates trousers from a skirt other than a seam, and he says it’s so freeing and comfortable, especially in summer! It’s a church growth technique. It’s about the flesh, about comfort and convenience, about acceptance, about a fake kind of unity.It contradicts what is essential about worship. Worship recognizes God and gives Him what He wants. Blended “worship” recognizes people and gives them what they want. You’re always going to be wrong when you start with people in worship. May 14 at 5:02 PM · The post I made the other day including the image of the man in a skirt had an article attached to it. It mentions how he wants to challenge gender stereotypes, especially in clothing. Its the same thing the anti-Bible feminists have done from the 1850’s onward. They challenged gender stereotypes as well and were quite successful after a few decades.
