We must pray for our leaders: I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. I Timothy 2:1-2 This is important because wicked leaders damage a nation: For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Ephesians 6:12 My wife and I have been praying for nearly 50 years that spiritual wickedness in high places will be revealed. Over the last few years, God has revealed IMMENSE wickedness in governments all over the world. Pray that God will reveal the spiritual wickedness in our lands and that people will care enough about it to take action. Most poverty is brought about by bad government. Poverty has no causes because poverty is the natural state of mankind (Mt. 26:11, Mk. 14:7, Jn.12:8). Wealth requires many conditions – predictable laws, private property rights so investors can keep the fruits of their investments, minimal government, and freedom to try new ideas, most of which fail, but successful ideas such as smartphones improve lives all over the world. As I think of the part of the world starting in Africa, extending across the Middle East to Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh, God has given natural resources to these lands, but there is great poverty. Intelligent, ambitious people there don’t see opportunities in their native lands and try to leave. This is usually due to corrupt or incompetent government. One action that might help is to find government officials who do good and write letters of appreciation to their superiors. This reminds them that you are watching.
