“Syrupy Christianity”
“That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection,
and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable
unto his death;” Philippians 3:10
We shun ” … the fellowship of his sufferings, … ” preferring
resurrection without it. However, the process of conforming
to the image of Christ demands this fellowship.
Syrupy Christians do not want suffering. I am very
grateful that I was able to travel to Haiti with Evangelist
Harold Boyd, and to visit the Soviet Union with Dr. Bob
Billings. There I observed a level of biblical Christianity that
syrupy Christians do not want:
… messages against sin and based on God’s Word.
… sermons going beyond an hour.
… singing old hymns birthed out of trusting Christ.
… giving tithes and offerings to God’s work.
… church pews without padded comfort.
… pastors burdened over the sins in the church.
.. accountability of church discipline.
… being told to win the lost to Christ.
… buildings without air-conditioning or sufficient heat.
… prayer meetings without coffee breaks.
… told to be faithful to all services.
Syrupy Christians also do not want anyone to write what I
have just written! What kind of Christianity do you practice?
Does it include membership in the “Fellowship of His
Suffering?” Just asking. – G.G.
