Daily Baptist Encyclopedia Biddle, Rev. William P., was born in Princess Anne Co., Va., Jan. 8, 1787. My. Biddle began to preach early in life, and coming to North Carolina, married, in February, 1810, Mary N., the daughter of Gen. Samuel Simpson. He was present at the formation of the Baptist State Convention in 1830, as was also his son, Col. H. 8. Biddle, and was until his death, which occurred in Newherne, Aug. 8, 1853, thoroughly identified with all the enterprises of the denomination. Being a man of large wealth he preached gratuitously, and thus, as he drew near the close of his life, did a serious injury to the churches to which he ministered. He was emi- nent for a devout spirit, a godly walk, and a large measure of usefulness in his day. From the Baptist Encyclopedia by William Cathcart- the following and the picture are from findagraveDIED.In this place, on the 8th. inst., the Rev. William P. Biddle, in the 66th year of his age. He was born in Eastern Virginia, but came in the early part of life, into this State, as A Babtist (sic) Minister, and has continued, for nearly half a century, a laborious and successful laborer in that office. His health had been for sometime infirm, and at length the disease indicated some fatal affection of the stomach, which after occasioning several weeks of severe suffering, borne with Christian fortitude and hope, terminated his earthly existence. — His death has left a painful chasm in the ministry of his denomination, as well as in a wide and affectionate family circle.
